November/ December 2017 Exhibit: Ken and Deb McQuiston Turn and Burn Custom Cuts
Turn and Burn Custom Cuts designs unique metal pieces and custom signs.
After over thirty years as a welder, working in the oilfield, Ken McQuistion found himself facing a sharp downturn in the oil industry in 2015 and 2016. Ken decided he wanted to spend more time at home in South Dakota and pursue a more creative outlet for his metal working experience. Thus in late 2016, Turn and Burn Custom Cuts came to be.
Ken, along with his wife Deb, particularly enjoy creating patriotic pieces and wildlife or landscape designs that reflect our Black Hills surroundings. Many pieces incorporate a rustic note, using barnwood, salvaged windows, or other re-purposed items. They love the challenge of creating custom pieces, by taking a customer's vision to make a one of a kind design.
Their metal designs are cut with a plasma machine, and most often finished with a metal patina product. Although they may produce more than one copy of a particular design, the patina gives each piece unique characteristics.
Ken and Deb say that each day and each project has been a learning experience throughout this first year of operating Turn and Burn Custom Cuts, and they are excited to see what kinds of unique items they can create as time goes on.
