Graham Thatcher, the author of I KNOW WHAT I LIKE: Everyone's Guide to the Arts, is the Artistic Director and primary performer for Periaktos Productions, the company he owns with his wife, Anna Marie. The couple uses theatrical productions as a teaching tool for continuing legal education. Graham's primary work is in the theatre and, since appearing in his first acting role at five years of age, he has performed in or directed over 200 community, university and professional theatre productions. His other love is writing and he has several magazine articles, essays and plays to his credit. His theatrical writing includes commissioned works as well as scripts, including The Mask of the Jaguar, about the cultural clash between the Maya and Europeans during the Spanish Conquest, and A Dickens Christmas, an adaptation of A Christmas Carol adapted for solo performance. He is the co-author and solo actor in the plays offered by Periaktos Productions for continuing legal education, including those about Clarence Darrow, Sir Thomas More and William O. Douglas. He is the co-author of their plays on Thurgood Marshall and Ben Franklin.
Over the past fifty years Graham has served as an educator, engaging students of all ages in university classrooms, business boardrooms and convention spaces. He holds a B.A. from San Francisco State University, an M.A. in Theatre from the University of South Dakota and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. He has been listed in Who's Who in American Education and Outstanding American Educators, and is a recipient of the Governor's Award from the Minnesota Council on Quality and the Rushmore Honors Award in the Arts from the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce. Graham and Anna Marie make their home near Piedmont.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: SUN. NOVEMBER 6 AT 2 PM, PIEDMONT VALLEY LIBRARY
This program features Graham Thatcher elaborating on the content of his book, I KNOW WHAT I LIKE: Everyone's Guide to the Arts. His goal is to uncomplicate and demystify the world of art while respecting the wonder of creative achievement. His approach is a bit different than that taught in traditional classrooms as it visits a whole new way to appreciate (or not appreciate) art on your own terms. The program explores and affirms what YOU sense, feel and think about art and will leave you feeling good about knowing what YOU like. All attendees will receive a FREE copy of the book courtesy of the Piedmont Valley Library and Periaktos Productions.
